January 1st, 2009: Dramatic Dining
Want a little drama in your dining? How about a sword-wielding waiter?
Don't be alarmed. In this case the sword is merely a culinary tool used to present your entree.
Bringing South American flair to Baton Rouge, Texas de Brazil steakhouse is now open at Perkins Rowe, patterned after the Brazilian dining experience in which wait staff clad as Gauchos, or Brazilian cowboys, circulate the dining room floor serving guests various cuts and types of meat from long skewers.
Meat selections are cooked in the traditional Brazilian "Churrascaria" style and include Brazilian sausage, chicken breast wrapped in bacon, and rack of lamb, as well as picanha, the house specialty, to name a few of the more than fifteen cuts of meat the restaurant serves.
Guests can ask for their dishes at the temperatures they prefer and, if they want, choose how well done or rare they prefer each meat served, explained Gereral Manager Gilson De Oliveira, originally from Brazil. About the past two months the restaurant has been open in Baton Rouge, De Oliveira said, "everything has been awesome."
Salad bar items include but are not limited to sushi, Brazilian black beans with pork, imported cheeses, marinated portobello mushrooms and artichoke hearts–more than fifty items in all.
Guests pay a flat rate of $42.99 which includes the salad area, meats and side items, with as much or as little meat as desired, which is sliced and diced tableside by the Gauchos. For those with a lighter appetite, the light dinner is available for $29.99 inclusive of all hot and cold salad bar items.
And right now, folks who sign up for the e-club at www.texasdebrazil.com will get a coupon for a half-priced dinner any Monday or Tuesday throughout the month of January.
